According to a recent Loudoun Indepenent article, "...the document, which is currently under revision, lays out an ambitious plan for Loudoun roads to include a litany of changes, such as the addition of high occupancy vehicle lanes to several Loudoun roads and the widening of many more. Besides being a guide, the document gives the county leverage when it asks a developer to help fund a new road when it requests to build along one mentioned in the plan.
Here are some of the highlights of the revised plan:
- Explore the feasibility of a bicycle route that connects all of the county’s historical and cultural sites
- Widen Route 7 east of Leesburg to eight lanes and add HOV lanes
- Widen Route 28 from Route 606 to Fairfax County line to eight lanes and add HOV lanes between Route 7 and Fairfax County line
- Widen Dulles Greenway to eight lanes
- Add HOV lanes to Loudoun County Parkway and Route 606
- Explore the possibility of having more crossings over the Potomac River
