Residents Advised of Potential Traffic Delays During World Police and Fire Games

As athletes from around the world come to participate in the 2015 World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), residents in the area may see increased traffic and road closures for some of the events being held in Loudoun County.

The WPFG is one of the largest multi-sport, multi-venue events in the world and is hosted by Fairfax County, Va., and held throughout the National Capital Region from Friday, June 26 to Sunday, July 5.

Local events:
  • The WPFG outdoor soccer tournament will be held at Morven Park between June 27 and July 3. Motorists can expect increased traffic on Route 15 in the area of Tutt Lane.
  • The WPFG cycling hill climb will be held on Blue Ridge Mountain Road (Rt. 601) at Route 7 on July 3. The southbound lane of Blue Ridge Mountain Road will be used by the cyclists for this event. One lane of eastbound and westbound Rt. 7 will be closed to provide traffic calming approaching the intersection of Route 7 and Blue Ridge Mountain Road. Please note this is a non-spectator event.
  • Several other WPFG events will be held at venues in Loudoun County from June 26-July 5 and are expected to have minimal impact on traffic.

The WPFG draws thousands of athletes from police, fire and other public safety agencies representing 60 countries competing in 1,600 medal events across 61 sports competitions. The Games strive to inspire, celebrate and honor our public safety officials.

Motorists in any of the areas of game events are asked to please be patient, drive safely and follow all law-enforcement direction.
